    Fast charging, trickle charging, float charging

    The BOC MPPT series photovoltaic charge controllers adopt advanced MPPT maximum power point tracking technology. They are intelligent solar charge controllers equipped with smart recognition and intelligent charge-discharge functions. Compared to traditional PWM controllers, these controllers offer a 30% to 60% efficiency improvement and are compatible with various types of batteries.

    Battery charging stage
    The controller features a three-stage charging method, consisting of fast charging, maintenance charging, and float charging. Through these quick, efficient, and safe battery-charging modes, the system can effectively extend the service life of the storage battery.

    a) Fast charging
    During the fast-charging phase, if the battery voltage has not yet reached the set full-charge voltage (i.e., the equalization/boost voltage), the controller will perform MPPT charging, delivering a greater amount of solar power to charge the battery. Once the battery voltage reaches the preset value, the system will switch to maintenance charging.

    b) Maintain charging
    When the battery voltage reaches the set value for the maintenance voltage, the controller will switch to constant-voltage charging. During this phase, MPPT charging will no longer be active, and the charging current will gradually decrease over time. The maintenance charging phase typically lasts by default for 0.5 hours. Once the duration reaches the set value, the system will transition to float charging.

    c) Float charging
    After the constant charging phase, the controller will reduce the charging current to lower the battery voltage and maintain the battery voltage at the float charge voltage setpoint. During the float charge phase, the battery receives a very weak charge, ensuring that it remains fully charged. In the float charge phase, the load can draw nearly all of the solar power generated. If the load exceeds the amount of power that the solar system can provide, the controller will no longer be able to keep the battery voltage at the float charge level. When the battery voltage drops to the recovery charge setpoint, the system will exit the float charge phase and re-enter the fast charging phase.
