China National Petroleum Corporation (hereinafter referred to as CNPC) is a super-large-scale petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group established in July 1998 on the basis of the former China National Petroleum & Natural Gas Corporation. It completed its corporate restructuring in December 2017. CNPC is a wholly state-owned enterprise and operates as an integrated international energy company covering the entire value chain—from exploration and production to refining, transportation, marketing, storage, and trade. Its main business activities include domestic and overseas oil and gas exploration and development, refining and chemical processing, oil and gas sales, pipeline transportation, international trade, engineering and technical services, construction engineering, equipment manufacturing, financial services, and new energy development. In 2017, CNPC ranked among the top 50 global oil companies in an overall ranking.
