On April 7, 2016, Schneider Electric, a global expert in energy efficiency management and automation, made its debut at the 2016 China Refrigeration Exhibition. At this year’s exhibition, leveraging its unique strengths in the field of “integration of power and low-voltage systems,” Schneider Electric showcased a range of smart building management products and solutions. Also on display were new products and solutions specifically designed for the industrial refrigeration sector by Eliwell, Schneider Electric’s well-known brand in the refrigeration industry. During this year’s Refrigeration Exhibition, reporters from Huicong Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Network were fortunate enough to participate in a media roundtable interview with Schneider Electric. Zhou Hongrui, Senior Marketing Manager at Schneider Electric, discussed the company’s products and future development directions with the reporters.

During this year’s Refrigeration Exhibition, reporters from Huicong Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Network were fortunate enough to participate in a group media interview with Schneider Electric. Zhou Hongrui, Senior Marketing Manager at Schneider Electric, engaged in an in-depth discussion with the reporters about the company’s products and future development directions.

 

  Promote the concept of integrated power and low-voltage systems to achieve high-level integration.

 

  As a global leader in energy efficiency management, Schneider boasts strong market presence across various application areas, including data centers, buildings, and residential spaces. In recent years, the trend toward intelligent industrial products has become increasingly prominent. To address this trend, Schneider has launched the SmartSpace IBMS system—a next-generation intelligent building management platform called SmartStruxure™—which serves as the primary platform for controlling and managing entire building systems. According to Zhou Hongrui, over the past several years, Schneider has continuously expanded the functionality and upgraded the hardware of this platform, leveraging numerous “Internet Plus” and IoT concepts to refine both the technology and architecture of its products—features that competitors simply do not possess. This system is also the key product that Schneider Electric is showcasing at this year’s exhibition.

  In addition, the PowerManager power distribution and energy management module was also a highlight of this exhibition. In the market, Schneider Electric enjoys significant advantages in low-voltage power distribution and grid solutions, placing it at the forefront both in China and globally. Zhou Hongrui stated that Schneider hopes to leverage this strong technological foundation to highlight its product strengths in building systems, integrating energy management and power quality modules into large-scale building control platforms. At this exhibition, Schneider promoted the industry-first concept of “integrated strong- and weak-current systems,” which attracted widespread attention from many property owners. Although this concept currently clashes with some property owners’ existing business models, many owners have nonetheless shown great interest and are willing to break away from their current practices to embrace products and solutions based on the “integrated strong- and weak-current systems” approach. This is precisely the concept that Schneider Electric plans to communicate to the market in the future.

 

  Leveraging intelligent systems as a platform to drive green productivity in the construction industry.

 

  As smoggy weather becomes increasingly frequent, the concept of green and energy-efficient development is gradually emerging as a crucial factor shaping China’s future trajectory. According to the latest data, building energy consumption now accounts for 33% of total societal energy consumption, making energy efficiency in buildings an urgent necessity in today’s society. Schneider Electric has long been committed to the “Green Productivity in Buildings” philosophy, offering comprehensive smart integration and interconnected building management solutions to create commercial buildings that are green, intelligent, healthy, and energy-efficient. The implementation of “Green Productivity in Buildings” can be broken down into three key aspects: investing in green productivity, operating and maintaining green productivity, and experiencing green productivity. Investing in green productivity involves upfront capital expenditures on equipment and facilities—such as variable-frequency drives and variable-frequency air conditioners—in newly constructed buildings across sectors including hotels, offices, and residential spaces. Operating and maintaining green productivity refers to how products and solutions can continue to achieve energy savings and effective management and supervision during the operation and maintenance phases of a building. Schneider’s smart building management products and solutions provide precisely these services, helping not only to reduce operational and energy costs but also to ensure the safety and reliability of building electrical systems. Building on both investment and operational maintenance efforts, the value of experiencing green productivity naturally comes to the fore. Through intelligent management approaches, we can deliver optimal indoor environments tailored to the needs of customers and users, ensuring health and safety. For instance, by striking the ideal balance among factors such as lighting intensity, HVAC systems, and humidity levels, we can create a more comfortable and healthier experience—a point of particular concern for both customers and end-users.

 

  Tackle real estate enterprises’ pain points by starting with the details.

 

  Schneider Electric maintains strong, collaborative relationships with many well-known real estate developers in China. Zhou Hongrui explained: “Currently, many large real estate companies are paying close attention to energy conservation and efficiency improvements in buildings. For example, Wanda and China Resources have already achieved energy savings in their construction—such as replacing windows with smart, centrally controlled ones and using an entire LED lighting system for illumination control. The next big challenge for these developers is how to further enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption. For Schneider Electric, this represents a completely new field of opportunity. Each real estate developer has unique product requirements and needs; therefore, Schneider Electric typically customizes comprehensive solutions tailored to each client’s specific demands, including integrated power and low-voltage systems, and even provides dedicated sales teams to handle the installation and commissioning of these systems.”

  For property developers, cost control is also a major area of focus. Zhou Hongrui told us that, over a decade ago, low-voltage systems were perceived as “high-end and sophisticated.” However, when they first entered the market, many people fell into a “blind spot” in their understanding. The disconnect between design and actual implementation has long been a widespread issue in the industry. Property developers prioritize results over product prices. Just like Pan Shiyi, who is extremely strict about procurement yet still invests heavily in PM2.5 monitoring and air-conditioning control. Among the large number of property developers, many companies may appear to care about costs, but in reality, what really matters to them is whether their investments will yield returns and achieve the desired outcomes. Meanwhile, Schneider Electric has put considerable effort into even seemingly minor aspects—primarily to reduce installation and commissioning costs. In the future, some small- and medium-sized systems might not even require commissioning at all; simply adjusting a few data parameters could suffice to bring them fully functional.

  Zhou Hongrui mentioned that in 2016, SmartStruxure™ and “integration of strong and weak current systems” were key priorities for Schneider Electric’s development. For the Energy Efficiency and Building Business Unit, “green productivity in buildings” has always been a guiding principle upheld by Schneider, and the company will continue to strengthen its promotion of this concept in the future.

  As China’s development enters a “new normal,” the overall economic situation has become somewhat sluggish. However, Schneider Electric’s smart building management products continue to maintain steady growth. Notably, certain product lines have even shown逆势增长—growing against the trend—while competitors are experiencing declines. Looking ahead to 2016, Schneider holds high expectations and aims to sustain continuous growth. At the same time, the slowing economic environment poses a significant challenge for Schneider. Although the decline in both the number of projects and bidding activities has had some impact on Schneider’s revenue, the company anticipates that its growth rate will stabilize around 5%.
