Recently, Schneider Electric, a global expert in energy efficiency management and automation, participated as a global partner in the 9th China Green Companies Annual Conference 2016. Zhu Hai, Global Executive Vice President and President of China at Schneider Electric, served as the moderator for the keynote forum titled “Smart Manufacturing: The Future of ‘Internet Plus Industry’” and led an in-depth discussion with attendees on the crucial role of smart manufacturing in supply-side structural reform. During the forum, he shared valuable insights into how companies can drive supply-side structural reform. He also shared the company’s profound insights into how enterprises can drive supply-side structural reform.

As the first decade-long action plan for implementing China’s strategy of becoming a manufacturing powerhouse, the “Made in China 2025” initiative has now entered a critical phase. To ensure the successful implementation of this strategy and to promote the transformation, upgrading, quality enhancement, and efficiency improvement of the manufacturing sector, boosting the country’s economic development will remain one of the most important tasks ahead. The introduction of supply-side structural reform has opened up new avenues for the development of the manufacturing industry.
From Schneider Electric’s perspective, manufacturing is the backbone of the national economy and, more importantly, the core industry driving China’s supply-side structural reform. For supply-side structural reform, which focuses on leveraging innovative technologies to enhance quality and efficiency, reduce costs, and boost total-factor productivity, smart manufacturing will undoubtedly become the key driving force behind future reforms. At the Focus Forum, Zhu Hai stated: “Smart manufacturing is the heart of ‘Made in China.’ It represents a return to China’s real economy and signifies that, driven by smart manufacturing, China’s manufacturing sector is about to enter a golden era of development.”
Innovation is at the heart of a nation’s future development. Each year, Schneider Electric invests 5% of its global revenue in innovation—focusing on integrating cutting-edge smart technologies such as industrial IoT, big data analytics, cloud computing, and energy efficiency management into next-generation factories and machinery. This effort aims to build a truly interconnected industrial ecosystem that enables “greater output with fewer inputs.” In terms of business models, Schneider Electric continuously explores innovative cross-industry collaboration approaches, helping industries improve quality and efficiency while driving forward the structural reform of the supply side. Moreover, as a multinational corporation, Schneider Electric deeply recognizes the importance of mastering hybrid ownership models and mindsets. To this end, it has established a fund specifically to invest in innovative domestic enterprises in the smart hardware sector, assisting them in elevating their project capabilities and thereby catalyzing the overall transformation and upgrading of China’s domestic industry.

At this conference, Zhu Hai also shared his views on how enterprises can drive supply-side structural reform. To advance the process of supply-side structural reform, enterprises need to closely monitor and implement four key words: "Go Global"—Chinese enterprises must further expand into overseas markets and align themselves with international standards; "Smart Manufacturing"—domestic industrial enterprises should take smart manufacturing as the core of their development, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of manufacturing; "Green Development"—placing emphasis on ecological balance between industry and the environment and adhering to a sustainable, green development philosophy; and "Innovation"—using technological and business model innovations to give rise to new formats, new industries, and new markets. In his concluding remarks, he stated: “Schneider Electric is eager to join hands with outstanding enterprises and partners from around the globe to promote innovation in smart technologies, accelerate industrial transformation and upgrading, advance the process of supply-side structural reform, and ultimately achieve a path of sustainable and ecologically balanced green development.”
